PTSD can occur after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening or terrifying event, such as physical or sexual assault, an accident, war, natural disaster, or other life-altering experience and can result in severe and lasting symptoms, such as nightmares, flashbacks, memory loss, situational avoidance, depression and anxiety, to name a few.
For many sufferers, the symptoms of PTSD are debilitating and cause impairments across multiple life domains. PTSD can place individuals at increased risk of addiction, long-term disability and suicide.
Trauma-related mental illness is of particular relevance to military and first responders, where urgent calls exist to address the growing prevalence of mental illness, and PTSD in particular, in these populations.
With effective treatment, PTSD sufferers can find hope for a return to healthy functioning and improved quality of life. At HRI, we believe that no life should be held back or cut short by mental illness, and we are dedicated to finding solutions to help improve the lives of people living with PTSD.
